How are you doing? If you are like most people, this question is asked of you many times each day. You respond with the predictable, “Fine, how are you?” Then the initiator of the question responds with a similar answer and everyone moves on with their day. Now, I would like to ask you a different question. How is your Bible doing? I imagine that question will make you ponder longer than the first. Think about it for a moment. Where is your Bible anyway? How does it look? Are the pages as crisp and clean as the day you took it out of its original box?
Does it look similar to a dust covered archaic journal found in an adventure movie? When was the last time you read encouraging words like, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5) or, “I know the plans I have for you” (Jeremiah 29:11). What about, “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good” (Psalm 107:1)? The health of our Bible speaks volumes about the health of our selves. Find a person carrying a tattered Bible, its pages filled with highlighted and underlined verses, and I will venture to guess that you have found a person who is peaceful with life’s circumstances, joyful in everyday situations and thankful for the ordinary things in life. Really, “How are you doing?” Spend time in prayer, read your Bible, allow God’s love to soak into your heart and transform your life.
