Prayer is used in Scouting worldwide, following the belief of its founder, Robert Baden-Powell, that “a scout is reverent.” When creating the Scouting concept, Baden-Powell was adamant that there was a place for God within it.
The Cub Scout Promise : I promise that I will do my best. To do my duty to God and to the Queen. To help other people. And to keep the Cub Scout Law .
Cub Scouting will now have seven methods : Living the Ideals (which incorporates the former Making Character Connections method ), Belonging to a Den, Using Advancement, Involving Family and Home, Participating in Activities, Serving Home and Neighborhood, and Wearing the Uniform.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2016, Scouts will fulfill the “ duty to God ” requirement to advance to any rank, from Tenderfoot to Eagle Scout . The Scout leader’s role is to listen to the Scout , independently of any personal beliefs or convictions.

The left – handed Scout handshake is a formal way of greeting other Scouts of both genders and is used by members of Scout and Guide organizations around the world. The handshake is made with the hand nearest to the heart and is offered as a token of friendship.

The uniform itself identifies a good citizen to the entire community. Commitment – Wearing a uniform is a constant reminder to each Cub Scout of his commitment to the ideals and purposes of Cub Scouting : duty to God, loyalty to country, and helpfulness to others.
The annual membership fee is $66 which covers 12 months of members and there is a one time joining fee of $25 (Effective August 1, 2020). For only $1 a month, $12 for the year, Cub Scouts may subscribe to Scout Life magazine. There may be additional local program fees and/or dues.
The Advancement Trail. First graders, and anyone beyond that grade who is new to Cub Scouting , completes the Bobcat Badge prior to working on their grade-specific badge of rank. Kindergartners, who are Lions, do not work on the Bobcat Badge.
Short for do your best. dyb (or dib ) and dob were used as abbreviated forms of do your best and do our best in certain Scout chants.
There are 12 principles a Boy Scout lives by which is actually considered the Scout Law . “A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.” All leaders must have and live by a set of values.
In his book, Scouting for Boys, Robert Baden-Powell chose the three – finger salute for Scouts to represent the three aspects of the Scout Promise: Honor God and Country. Help Others. Obey the Scout Law.
