When you pray , you can no longer ask God to forgive as you forgive. Its not about you anymore. In conclusion therefore, the Lord’s prayer is not relevant for the New Covenant. It was good under Law but under grace it negates the work done by Jesus on the cross.
” Pray then like this: ‘ Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.'”
It’s neither necessary nor was it only for disciples. It’s a model for how we can pray (praise, requests, forgiveness, thanks). It is gooed to pray together wirh others the Lord’s prayer because you unite with the same words. Oherwise you can pray whatever is on your heart.
Lead us not into mistranslation. Pope Francis officially approved a change to the most famous prayer in Christianity. It’s the prayer Jesus taught followers to pray and one of the few things that unites 2.2 billion Christians across the globe.
As a result, Catholics living in the eastern half of the Roman Empire usually added the doxology while those in the western half believed the “ Our Father ” as said during today’s Mass was sufficient. When scholars decided on the final written version, they chose to omit it. The end of the Lord’s Prayer is one of them.”
Father in heaven, I stand before You today in Your omnipotent presence to ask that You grant me strength. I want You to give me the strength to power through all of the tasks today — whether little or big. It is by Your will that I live oh Lord. And I know it is also by Your will I will not go weak today .
Our Father , Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Hail Mary, full of grace.
So real Christian praying is standing with Jesus and saying to God the words that Jesus would say to God, Father. All prayer has to acknowledge our need of forgiveness and our need to forgive. So it’s not so much that there would be other ways of saying it, we say those words simply because Jesus told us to.
The most common prayer among Christians is the ” Lord’s Prayer “, which according to the gospel accounts (e.g. Matthew 6:9-13) is how Jesus taught his disciples to pray.
The Lord’s Prayer appears in two of the four Gospels: Matthew (6:9-13) and Luke (11:2-4).
Hail Mary , full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary , Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. For translations from the Latin into various languages, see Wikisource.
In the King James Version of the Bible the text reads: But when ye pray , use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do : for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. In praying , don’t use vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do ; for they think that they will be heard for their much speaking.
Set prayers The Lord’s Prayer is recited in most Christian services and is a prayer which Jesus used to help teach his followers to pray .
