Jabez is asking God to bless him greatly, exceedingly, or abundantly. He is leaving it up to God as the to the means of the blessings. This blessing is similar to “Thy Will be done” in the Lord’s Prayer .
In 1 Chronicles 4:9-10, we find a short prayer uttered by an obscure man: “Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother named him ‘Jabez’ saying, ‘Because I bore him with pain. ‘ Now, Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, ‘Oh, Lord, bless me indeed and expand my territory.
But Jabez was sick and tired of pain, so he asked God to keep him from evil and harm. He asked that God would make him secure. If he did not experience harm or pain, he would not cause pain to others. Jabez was a more honourable man that all his brothers .
In 1 Chronicles 4:9 the Bible points out that Jabez was named after the pain and sorrow that the past generation experienced. Notice, the bold move of Jabez , he asked God to not only enlarge his existing territory , but to bless him indeed – meaning to bless him above and beyond what he can conceive or imagine.

What does it mean for God to enlarge your territory ? Enlarge means to increase, expand or add on. So when God adds to your territory it is going to be something new – unfamiliar land. It will be something you. haven’t seen before.
