A human person is not righteous in God’s eyes because of his choice or commitment, his good works or his piety, his emotions or intellect. “Through faith in Christ, therefore, Christ’s righteousness becomes our righteousness and all that he has becomes ours; rather, he himself becomes ours.”
The primary difference between the righteous man’s reward and the prophet’s reward is that the righteous man receives a reward according to the established word of God while the prophet receives a reward according to the present word of God. As with the reward for righteousness , this reward requires effort to receive.
The short answer is : we are righteous because God counts Jesus’ goodness instead of our sins when we have faith in Jesus. We are becoming holy as we obey God more and more in our lives.
