The National Day of Prayer is observed annually on the first Thursday in May , which is today, May 7 . This day observance, designated by the United States Congress, asks people “to turn to God in prayer and meditation.” For many, prayer is an integral part of daily life.
Prayer Breakfast or Lunch – Since National Day of Prayer always falls on a Thursday, organize an early morning prayer breakfast (it’s the best way to start the day — just look at Jesus in Mark 1:35!) or an hour of prayer during lunchtime.
The Women’s World Day of Prayer started in the USA in 1887 when Mary Ellen Fairchild James, wife of Darwin Rush James from Brooklyn, New York, called for a day of prayer for home missions, and Methodist women called for a week of prayer and self-denial for foreign missions.

The National Prayer Breakfast, held in the Hilton’s International Ballroom, is yearly attended by some 3,500 guests, including international invitees from over 100 countries. It is hosted by members of the United States Congress and is organized on their behalf by The Fellowship Foundation, a Christian organization.

National Daughters Day falls on September 25. There are many similar holidays that fall around the same time, with World Daughters Day on September 28 and and some other countries choosing to celebrate National Daughters Day on October 1.
According to an article in the August 20, 1944 , St. Joseph News-Press/Gazette, in 1936, J Henry Dusenberry first pursued the idea of a Sons’ and Daughters’ Day. The thought occurred to him after hearing a child ask why there was no such occasion. Through his efforts, the day started in Missouri and spread.
